El biólogo mexicano Mauricio Hoyos fue atacado por un tiburón en Costa Rica.Los hechos ocurrieron la mañana del lunes 29 de septiembre en el Parque Nacional Isla del Coco.
El biólogo se encontraba buceando para realizar el marcaje de control de especímenes cuando un tiburón Galápagos lo atacó.
Personal del Benemérito Cuerpo de Bomberos de Costa Rica lo trasladó a Puntarenas y después a la ciudad de San José.
El médico de Bomberos, Luis Fernández, reportó que el biólogo mexicano sufrió heridas en la cabeza y cara.
Fue atacado por un tiburón, de aproximadamente 4 metros, en su cabeza, lo cual le produjo lesiones a nivel de cara izquierda y cuero cabelludo”, dijo.Primeros informes señalan que el mexicano se reporta estable pero grave.
La fundación For the Oceans señaló que el Dr. Mauricio Hoyos encabezaba una expedición científica como parte de la coalición One Ocean Worldwide.
Incidentes como este son extremadamente raros,” afirmó Alex Antoniou, director ejecutivo de la organización Fins Attached.
¿Quién es Mauricio Hoyos, mexicano atacado por un tiburón?
El biólogo Mauricio Hoyos es un reconocido científico que ha dedicado su carrera a la conservación de los tiburones y la protección de los océanos.
En 2018 fue reconocido como Investigador del Año por Fins Attached y en 2022 recibió el Shark Guardian del Shark Project International.
Este no es el primer desencuentro que tiene con tiburones, toda vez que en alguna ocasión perdió parte de un dedo sacando a un tiburón de una jaula, derivado de un accidente al amarrar una cuerda.
Asimismo, en 2018, contó que “tengo la mordida de un tiburón Galápagos” que intentaba defenderse también al marcarlo.
