La presidenta de México, Claudia Sheinbaum, dijo un día después de la reunión del 11 de junio en Palacio Nacional que expresó al exembajador Landau su desacuerdo con las redadas implementadas por el gobierno de Donald Trump contra migrantes en Los Ángeles.
El subsecretario de Estado de Estados Unidos, Christopher Landau, dijo este lunes que en los próximos meses se podría realizar una reunión para abordar temas de seguridad en la Ciudad de México, entre secretarios estadounidenses y mexicanos, en la que se podrían firmar nuevos acuerdos.
“Yo creo que hay voluntad en ambos lados de la frontera para enfrentar de manera conjunta esos retos (en seguridad), porque son retos compartidos. Así que creo que en ese aspecto tuvimos unas reuniones muy exitosas“, señaló en conferencia virtual en referencia a los pasados encuentros en la materia.
“Al fin y al cabo yo creo que como dije al comienzo la idea es que tengamos cuatro o cinco secretarios nuestros que van a visitar la Ciudad de México en el futuro muy próximo sobre todo para hablar, ojalá firmar acuerdos, en temas de seguridad pero esos temas están muy pendientes en la agenda”.
Sobre su reunión del 11 de junio pasado con la presidenta de México, Claudia Sheinbaum, Landau comentó que se realizó en un ambiente de “respeto mutuo” entre ambos países y señaló que se abordó el tema de migración, del cual, dijo, las cifras “se han desplomado de una manera dramática” con Trump.
“Tuvimos una conversación de respeto mutuo obviamente entre nuestros países, y nosotros personalmente tenemos una muy buena relación y platicamos sobre los temas que nos preocupan a los dos, cooperación económica, cómo podemos llegar a una situación donde fomentemos la prosperidad en ambos lados de la frontera”, respondió a una pregunta de medios.
“La situación de seguridad, otra vez ambos países tenemos los mismo retos que nos enfrentan con los cárteles, sobretodo el narcotráfico, obviamente temas de migración siguen siendo relevantes, aunque los números de migración han bajado, se han desplomado de una manera dramática, desde la llegada del presidente Trump a la Casa Blanca”.
A dicha reunión que sigue sin tener una fecha establecida, pero que se realizará en la Ciudad de México, podría acudir el secretario de Estado, Marco Rubio, para tratar temas de seguridad, migración, desarrollo y cooperación económica, dijo Landau.

“Hablamos de distintos temas, le mostramos los resultados en seguridad, temas de migración, hablamos de la defensa de nuestros hermanos migrantes, de que no estábamos de acuerdo de que se utilizarán las redadas para detener a personas que trabajan honestamente en los Estados Unidos”.
“Que eso iba a dañar, no solamente a las personas, sino a la propia economía de los Estados Unidos, y pues de parte de ellos estuvo Chris Landau y el embajador (Ronald Johnson), pues que ellos iban a buscar siempre la mejor relación de ambas naciones, de ambos pueblos”, señaló en su conferencia matutina.
