La Cruz Roja recibió en su hospital de campaña en Gaza, en una noche, 27 muertos y 157 heridos después de que Israel abriera fuego contra palestinos.
El hospital de campaña que el Comité Internacional de la Cruz Roja (CICR) tiene en Ráfah, en el sur de la Franja de Gaza, se encuentra prácticamente desbordado en los últimos días por la cantidad de heridos y muertos que recibe a causa de disparos de las tropas israelíes cerca de los puntos de distribución de ayuda establecidos por Israel con contratistas estadounidenses.
En un comunicado, la Cruz Roja recuerda que el hospital, con capacidad para 60 camas, ha recibido solo en la madrugada de este martes 27 muertos y otros 157 heridos después de que fuerzas israelíes abrieran fuego contra palestinos que aguardaban la entrega de comida en Ráfah.
“La mayoría de los casos sufrieron heridas de bala. Una vez más, todos los pacientes que respondieron indicaron que intentaban llegar a un punto de distribución de asistencia”, indica la nota.
Según el CICR, en la última semana su personal ha respondido a cinco incidentes con gran número de víctimas, cuatro de los cuales ocurrieron solo en las últimas 96 horas.
“El número de pacientes con heridas por arma de fuego recibidos hoy en un solo incidente es el más alto desde la instalación del hospital de campaña hace más de un año”, dice la nota, que añade que “el elevado número de pacientes superó con creces el número de camas del hospital y amenazó con desbordar la capacidad de respuesta de su personal”.
Según el CICR, “la magnitud y frecuencia sin precedentes de los recientes incidentes con gran número de víctimas atendidos en el hospital de campaña son profundamente preocupantes e ilustran la terrible realidad que la población civil de Gaza se ve obligada a soportar”.
De hecho, alerta de que actualmente los suministros no pueden reponerse al ritmo necesario para atender al elevado número de víctimas, lo que aumenta la presión sobre el hospital y las reservas existentes.
Finalmente, la Cruz Roja reitera su llamamiento “al respeto y la protección de la población civil”.
“Quienes intentan acceder a la asistencia humanitaria no deberían verse expuestos a ningún peligro. Ahora más que nunca, es crucial que se permita y facilite el flujo rápido y sin trabas de ayuda humanitaria a Gaza”, sentencia.
En un comunicado, el Ejército israelí reconoció haber abierto fuego, a alrededor de medio kilómetro del punto de distribución, “contra varios sospechosos que avanzaban hacia las tropas de forma que representaban una amenaza”, pero no aportó pruebas.
La distribución la articula la Fundación de Ayuda para Gaza (GHF, por sus siglas en inglés), respaldada por EE.UU. y que abre desde hace ocho días un punto donde entrega cajas con comida solo en el sur -para una población de 2,1 millones de gazatíes-, que dijo que no se hace responsable “del área fuera” de sus centros, “que sigue siendo una zona de guerra activa”.
Ya el pasado domingo, de madrugada, al menos otros 31 palestinos murieron y más de 170 resultaron heridos por disparos a apenas un kilómetro de este mismo punto de distribución de alimento en Ráfah, confirmaron Sanidad y el CICR.
El Ejército israelí negó su responsabilidad, pero un oficial militar confirmó que las tropas dispararon “tiros de advertencia” cerca del centro.
