Advierte de inestabilidad que prevalece en el país tras caida del régimen de Bashar al-Assad.
La directora de la Organización Internacional para las Migraciones (OIM), Amy Pope, dijo que la agencia de la ONU desaconseja el regreso a gran escala de refugiados a Siria antes de que la situación se haya estabilizado.
«La gente tiene derecho a regresar a casa (…) pero no estamos aconsejando un regreso a gran escala (…) el sistema no puede soportar esta afluencia«, dijo Pope a AFP durante una visita a Líbano, asegurando que por el momento «enviar a la gente de regreso solo desestabilizará aún más el país».
Según cálculos de la ONU, un millón de refugiados sirios podrían volver a su país entre enero y junio de 2025, tras el derrocamiento de Bashar al-Assad por una coalición de grupos rebeldes liderados por islamistas radicales, el 8 de diciembre.
Alertan sobre nueva ola migratoria en Siria.
Pope agregó que «sin inversiones en Siria, […] devolver allí a la agente desestabilizará aún más el país y probablemente creará presiones que incitarán» a una nueva ola migratoria.
Según ella, «decenas de miles» de personas han huido de Siria desde la caída de Bashar al-Assad, y «hemos escuchado decir que las minorías religiosas se están yendo del país».
Miembros de la comunidad musulmana chiita habrían huido «no porque estén realmente amenazados, sino porque están preocupados por potenciales amenazas» en un país que es mayoritariamente sunita, añadió.
Tras la caída de Al-Assad, que afirmaba proteger a las minorías, las nuevas autoridades se comprometieron a establecer un Estado de derecho que respete a todas las minorías religiosas.
Responsables religiosos cristianos radicados en Damasco «indicaron que sus comunidades están muy preocupadas, aunque todavía no se hayan marchado» del país, dijo Amy Pope.
La directora de la OIM añadió que la comunidad internacional desea «asegurarse de que las voces más radicales de la coalición no desestabilicen un gobierno que se reivindica más abierto, democrático e inclusivo».
