Funcionarios reafirman la importancia de la relación de defensa de la región.
Esta semana se llevó a cabo la V Reunión Ministerial de Defensa de América del Norte (NADM) en la que los presentantes de Estados Unidos, Canadá y México abordaron las oportunidades para fortalecer la cooperación en defensa de la región.
En el encuentro, celebrado en la Ciudad de México, participó virtualmente el Secretario de Defensa de EU, Lloyd Austin, así como los secretarios de Marina de México, José Rafael Ojeda Durán; y de la Defensa Nacional, Luis Crescencio Sandoval, y el Ministro de Defensa de Canadá, Bill Blair.
Los funcionarios de los tres países discutieron sobre el desarrollo de una evaluación de amenazas continentales, el fortalecimiento de la ciberdefensa y el apoyo a la asistencia humanitaria trilateral y la respuesta a desastres y el fortalecimiento de la seguridad y la resiliencia climáticas.
El secretario Austin y sus homólogos mexicanos y canadiense reafirmaron la importancia de la relación de defensa de América del Norte, y el funcionario estadounidense acordó albergar la sexta NADM en 2025.
NADM es el principal foro para definir y promover la seguridad continental con Canadá y México, desarrollar una defensa integrada y en niveles de América del Norte y permitir la colaboración trilateral en cuestiones de seguridad y defensa con dos socios clave en el hemisferio occidental.
La Ministerial de Defensa de América del Norte es una oportunidad para discutir cuestiones de defensa a nivel estratégico e identificar prioridades para la cooperación futura, destacó el Departamento de Defensa de Estados Unidos.
